Tracy Shibou, BSc, Educator, In-person Breastfeeding Support

Tracy became passionate about advocating for women’s reproductive health after
experiencing the joy of becoming a mother in 1998. A few months after the home waterbirth of her second daughter in 2000, she embarked on a journey which included doula training and extensive breastfeeding education with La Leche League, where she now provides phone counselling and support on the Breastfeeding Helpline. She has led numerous classes on topics such as Birth andBreastfeeding.
In addition to being a strong supporter of breastfeeding, Tracy has also enjoyed working as a prenatal educator, and labour and postpartum doula since 2003. In this capacity, she has worked with low risk, high risk, twins, VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean), breech, hospital, birth centre and home births. As a team player, she has collaborated with midwives, obstetricians, family doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists, registered massage therapists, as well as alternative healers.  From these diverse experiences, Tracy has developed an approach which is always centred on providing a healthy balance of informational and emotional support to parents so that their birthing and early parenting
experiences can be achieved in the most confident manner possible.
Tracy holds a Bachelor of Science and has worked in a medical research laboratory, allowing her to navigate clinical settings while trusting a person’s natural instincts and abilities. She has been a Clinical Teaching Associate in the Faculty of Medicine at University of Manitoba since 2009, encouraging medical students to add a trauma informed patient centred approach into their practice.
Pregnancy is a time of great anticipation and excitement.  While you and your family are looking forward to this new life addition, pregnancy also means many decisions to make and changes to cope with. Tracy will be there with you to help you make thoughtful and empowering choices and support you throughout the entire childbearing year.
